I love reviews, especially in fields that I'm not too familiar with or if I've been out of the loop for a while. You can feel yourself getting smarter as you read them with the talented authors dripping their distilled knowledge into your brain.

There is a great review series on Nature Reviews Microbiology all about microbiomes. The series started in 2015 and there are 13 meaty reviews covering everything from community profiling to the gut microbiome of bees.

The latest review is a really thorough overview of the research of the microbiome in cancer. It's a great synthesis article with all the relevant literature explained in one place the with the trademark Nature Reviews graphics making some of the more complex ideas easy to understand.

Check out all of the articles here:

I'm a Communications Officer at MAX IV Laboratory in Lund, Sweden and the Community Editor for npj Biofilms and Microbiomes. I'm interested in how bacteria cause disease and look to technology to produce novel tools to study and ultimately prevent infection. Part of my current role is to find ways to use synchrotron radiation to study microorganisms.
