The White House announced today a new initiative to foster cross disciplinary collaboration and funding stimulus for the study of microbiomes. Interestingly, unlike the Human Microbiome Project this initiative is not limited to human research. The funders involved are the Department of Energy, NASA, NIH, NSF and the Department of Agriculture, in addition to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, University of California San Diego and others. More details can be found in the White House press release.
